There is nothing quite like a Wayside Christmas! On Sunday, 25 December 2016, over 800 people from all walks of life will descend on Hughes Street for our annual Christmas Day Street Party.
The day is a reminder of the true values of Christmas - generosity, gratitude and giving back. Since its humble beginnings as a back-lane BBQ, the now famous street party has had one main objective – to bring people in the community together.
This year, like every other year, people of all traditions, and from all walks of life, will sit side by side for good company, good food and lots of fun. Christmas lunch is served and Santa makes an appearance to hand out presents to children. There will an outdoor Christmas chapel, carol singers, a DJ, games, and activities for children.
Please join us as a guest on Christmas Day to ensure that the day is brimming with love for the whole community. The festivities go from 10am to 2pm. The Christmas Church Service is at 10.30am.
The Wayside Chapel Bondi Beach and our Bondi Community Services Centre at Norman Andrews House will also be getting into the festive spirit this Christmas!
Join us for service at Wayside Bondi:
Christmas Eve - evening service at 7:30pm
Christmas Day - breakfast service at 9am
The Christmas Day service will be followed by a bus to Kings Cross to participate in The Wayside Chapel Kings Cross service and lunch.
This year, like every year, Wayside has been overwhelmed with offers of help for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day volunteering. All our volunteer shifts for this Christmas are now filled. We thank you for your offer to help in a voluntary role, and invite you to instead to share in our Wayside Christmas as a guest. We would like to invite you to come and participate in our day, by sharing a table with our visitors and being part of our community. Your presence on the day, a warm smile and a friendly ear to those in need, is the greatest gift you can give.
If you want to bring a little something more to our Christmas Day Street Party, you can ‘donate a plate’ and help us cater Christmas lunch for 800 of our nearest and dearest.
By making a donation towards a plate for Wayside’s Christmas Day you’re showing some of Sydney’s most marginalised people that someone cares about them in the most practical way. You can make a donation for yourself or as a gift on someone’s behalf, and we’ll send them a beautifully designed card to honour your donation.
You can donate a plate here.
Christmas Day simply wouldn't happen without the generous donations of good and services. If you would like to bring joy to vulnerable people this Christmas, please choose something from our Christmas wishlist. Email Guy Cooper at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (02) 9581 9111 to organise a donation or to find out more details about items in the wish list.
